Course Overview
This hands-on course introduces students to the repetitive and transformative world of printmaking, surface design, and functional art. Participants will explore traditional and contemporary techniques, moving from paper surfaces to dimensional leatherwork.
The curriculum emphasizes the elements of art—specifically texture, shape, and
value—while developing fine motor skills and spatial awareness.

Core Concepts and Techniques

  • Printmaking Foundations: Students learn the mechanics of transferring images using relief printing and monoprinting.
  • Stamping and Pattern Design: Projects focus on creating custom stamps, understanding positive and negative space, and designing repeating patterns.
  • Leathercraft Integration: Students apply their knowledge of relief and stamping to structural leather surfaces, learning how material properties change the artistic process.
  • Tool Safety and Mastery: Safe handling of specialized tools, including linoleum cutters, bench hooks, leather stamps, and mallets.
