Course Description

Unlock the secrets of the human form in this exciting, hands-on drawing course designed specifically for middle school artists! Students will learn how to captur human posture, movement, and expression without the pressure of making a "perfect" realistic portrait.

Using wooden artist mannequins, 3D shapes, and geometric forms, we will break the human body down into simple, manageable pieces. Once students master the basics of balance and proportion, they will dive into the world of abstraction. We will experiment with exaggerated shapes, bold lines, dramatic lighting, and vibrant colors to turn ordinary poses into unique, expressive masterpieces. This course is perfect for building confidence, improving observational skills, and discovering your own unique artistic voice.

What Students Will Learn:

• Form Breakdown: How to see the human body as collection of simple geometric shapes (cylinders, spheres, and cubes).
• Gesture Drawing: Capturing action, energy, and movement in quick, high-energy sketches.
• Proportion & Balance: Understanding weight distribution and how the body moves in space.

Homeschool Art meets Tuesdays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Fountain City Art Center, 213 Hotel Road, Knoxville, TN 37918. 

Tuition is $69 per month, and preregistration is required.
